About My Stone Lid Boxes
I spend many hours selecting the most eye-catching
and unusual semiprecious stones for the lids of these boxes. Many of them
are fossil stones, like dinosaur bone, petrified wood, or turritella; others include different types of agate and picture jasper.
The boxes themselves are handcrafted from various
hardwoods and burl woods. Most are native species that grow in California
and Oregon, but I occasionally use exotic, plantation-grown hardwoods from Central
America and Africa.
The colors you see are natural--I dip each piece in
a clear Danish wood oil and then finish it with a clear satin lacquer. The bottom of
each box is lined with felt both inside and out. Each box has a carefully
shaped "lip" to make it easy to lift the lid.
Every single box is completely one-of-a-kind--there
is no other like it in the world. Use it to store a special piece of
jewelry, or loose change, or other small treasures--even paper clips!
Whether destined for your coffee table, dresser, or desk top, these Stone Lid
Boxes are both decorative and functional. They also make unique gifts for
weddings, housewarmings, birthdays, and other special occasions.
